Presentation:
We are pleased to meet you on
our site dedicated to Mr. Pierre Loti, a famous French writer. We are
an international group of 3 photographers and a writer and we have
been following the road followed by Mr. Loti during his trip through
Iran on May 1900. On this site, you can see the story of this trip,
and the photographs taken during our journey on May 2000, 100 years
after the original trip. You will also be able to get more familiar
with each member of this team as well as their art work, and you will
have the ability to contact them or write them your impressions.
It was in 1998 that I saw the
book of Pierre Loti "Vers Ispahan" (Towards Esfahan). It gave me the
idea of traveling to Iran 100 years after him to see the changes
during this time. I went to Iran during the winter of 1999 to make a
test. I found out that the subject was so vast that it couldn't be
done by one person without having dispersed and heterogeneous results.
So I had the idea of inviting some people to join me in my trip. But
why not people with different points of view one from the other? So I
invited my friend Michel BEINE from Liege (Belgium) who has never been
to Iran and was discovering this country for the first time. Then I
proposed Arash AKHTARI-RAD to join us. A photographer from Iran who
has never been abroad and only knows his own country. And finally my
friend Bruno NYSSEN joined us to write about our journey.
For the trip, we decided to choose each, one subject and hold on to
it. Michel chose to cover the roads, Arash photographed the old
neighborhoods and their people, and I chose bazaars.
We traveled through Iran on May 2000. Each of us has put his emotions
and his way of seeing things at that moment into his art work. I
invite you then to visit these pages dedicated to photographers, get
to know them better and see their images, as well as the story of our
trip written by Bruno.
